This “Time is on my Side” from the first vintage, 2023, is produced by the multi-talented Jade in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, a municipality within the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin.
The wine is made from Rioja’s most widespread and characteristic grape variety: Tempranillo (88%), blended with a small amount of Graciano (12%).
The Tempranillo grapes come from ‘La Cantera’ (‘Harrobia’ in Basque), near the Sierra de Toloño in Labastida, Rioja Alavesa. The 39-year-old vines are trained using the bush method, growing on clay-limestone and sandstone soil at an altitude of 650 metres above sea level. The Graciano, which is being incorporated into Jade wines for the first time, comes from Laguardia, also on clay-limestone soils.
The Graciano bunches were completely destemmed, whilst 30% of the Tempranillo bunches were left whole for fermentation in open vats. The resulting wine was aged for 17 months in a 1,000-litre French oak cask, followed by 15 months of bottle ageing before being released onto the market.
A very exclusive red wine from La Rioja of which there are only 1380 bottles. A real rarity!
