Working mainly with terraced vineyards on primary rock soils and under a continental climate, the estate produces wines of remarkable purity, tension and ageing potential.
Johaness Hirsch's wines are especially known for the mineral-driven expression of Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, offering fresh, vibrant and highly gastronomic profiles. These are wines defined by precision, energy and balance, highly valued by wine lovers and fine dining professionals.
Hirsch Ried Grub Grüner Veltliner 2021 comes from Ried Grub 1ÖTW, a benchmark vineyard in Kamptal, Austria, located between the renowned Heiligenstein and Gaisberg sites. The sheltered, southwest-facing vineyard is rooted in calcareous loess, clayey silt, gravel and sandstone, giving the wine depth, minerality and remarkable tension.
The grapes were harvested in October, whole-bunch pressed and fermented exclusively with indigenous yeasts. The wine was matured in stainless steel tanks and large oak casks on its fine lees until mid-May. The 2021 vintage is particularly regarded in Kamptal for its precision and finesse, combining ripe fruit with a beautifully defined acid structure.
A dry, elegant and mineral Grüner Veltliner, showing ripe yellow apple, fresh herbs, citrus and subtle spice. Fresh and textured on the palate, with a distinctive saline finish, it is a single-vineyard wine with excellent ageing potential and a clear expression of Kamptal's terroir.
