Hirsch Ried Grub Kammern Grüner Veltliner 2014

Hirsch Ried Grub Kammern Grüner Veltliner 2014 comes from Ried Grub 1ÖTW, one of Kamptal's benchmark vineyards in Austria. The site lies between the Heiligenstein and Gaisberg hills, sheltered from the wind and open towards the southwest. Its calcareous loess soils, with clayey-sandy silt, gravel and rock fragments, sit above the Zöbing Formation of siltstone and sandstone. 

The grapes were harvested in the second week of October and whole-bunch pressed. Fermentation took place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and without temperature control, followed by ageing in a combination of stainless steel tanks and large oak casks on the fine lees until the end of April. The wine was produced under certified biodynamic farming principles.

With more than a decade of bottle age, the 2014 vintage beautifully demonstrates the ageing potential of top-quality Grüner Veltliner. It shows aromas of fresh pineapple, mango, white apple, subtly smoky mineral notes and delicate tobacco, followed by a taut, complex palate with fresh acidity and a long, saline and mineral finish. A particularly compelling bottle for discovering the evolution of a great Austrian white wine.
