Working mainly with terraced vineyards on primary rock soils and under a continental climate, the estate produces wines of remarkable purity, tension and ageing potential.
Johaness Hirsch's wines are especially known for the mineral-driven expression of Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, offering fresh, vibrant and highly gastronomic profiles. These are wines defined by precision, energy and balance, highly valued by wine lovers and fine dining professionals.
Hirsch Ried Grub Kammern Grüner Veltliner 2017 comes from the Ried Grub 1ÖTW (1st Cru) single vineyard in Kammern, Kamptal DAC. Nestled between the Heiligenstein and Gaisberg hills, this sheltered southwest-facing site features calcareous loess soils over the Zöbing Formation of siltstone and sandstone, with pockets of gravel that contribute remarkable minerality, depth and outstanding ageing potential.
The vineyards are farmed according to certified biodynamic principles, with grapes harvested by hand at the end of September and beginning of October. Whole-bunch pressing is followed by fermentation with indigenous yeasts, while ageing takes place on the fine lees in a combination of stainless steel tanks and large oak casks until the following summer, preserving the purity of the vineyard while adding texture and complexity.
The 2017 vintage delivers a refined and age-worthy Grüner Veltliner with aromas of ripe apple, black pepper, fresh herbs and a subtle chalky character. The palate is precise, vibrant and beautifully structured, expressing the elegance and authenticity of one of Kamptal's finest terroirs.
