Suertes del Marqués is a family winery in Valle de La Orotava, Tenerife, led by winemaker Jonatan García, one of the key figures behind the revival of the island's indigenous grape varieties and old vineyards. His approach focuses on expressing the volcanic, Atlantic and mineral character of each vineyard through careful viticulture and minimal-intervention winemaking.
Vidonia 2023 is a white wine from the D.O. Valle de La Orotava, made from 100% Listán Blanco sourced from 60- to 150-year-old vines in the Las Suertes, El Bucarón, La Mocana and La Florida plots. The ungrafted vines are trained using the traditional cordón trenzado system and grow at 380–650 metres above sea level on volcanic soils with a significant clay component.
For the 2023 vintage, the grapes were harvested from early to late August. Alcoholic fermentation took place in 500-litre oak barrels, followed by partial malolactic fermentation and 11 months of ageing in 500-litre French and Austrian oak barrels.
It is a dry, deep, fresh and precise white, showing ripe white fruit, citrus, dried flowers and subtle spice, supported by pronounced mineral and saline notes. Vibrant acidity provides tension and length, while the oak adds texture and volume without masking the character of Listán Blanco. A highly gastronomic wine for seafood, fish, oysters, poultry and ingredient-driven cuisine.
The 2023 vintage received 95 points from Tim Atkin.
