Suertes del Marqués is a family winery in Valle de La Orotava, Tenerife, led by winemaker Jonatan García, one of the key figures behind the revival of the island's indigenous grape varieties and old vineyards. His approach focuses on expressing the volcanic, Atlantic and mineral character of each vineyard through careful viticulture and minimal-intervention winemaking.
Trenzado 2025 is one of the signature white wines of Suertes del Marqués, made in the D.O. Valle de La Orotava, Tenerife, mainly from 60- to 150-year-old Listán Blanco vines. The vineyards are located in the western part of the valley, at approximately 350–700 metres above sea level, on volcanic soils with basaltic rock close to the surface. The vines are trained using the traditional cordón trenzado system, which gives the wine its name.
The grapes are hand-harvested and pressed whole. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in 500-litre oak barrels and large foudres, with partial malolactic fermentation. The wine then spends 10 months ageing in the same vessels, developing texture and complexity while retaining the freshness characteristic of Listán Blanco and Tenerife's Atlantic climate.
On the palate, it is mineral, saline and vibrant, with white and citrus fruit, flint, herbal notes and subtle ageing nuances. The oak is well integrated, while the acidity provides tension and length. A distinctly volcanic and Atlantic white, particularly suited to seafood, fish, rice dishes, poultry and vegetables.
