Suertes del Marqués is a family winery in Valle de La Orotava, Tenerife, led by winemaker Jonatan García, one of the key figures behind the revival of the island's indigenous grape varieties and old vineyards. His approach focuses on expressing the volcanic, Atlantic and mineral character of each vineyard through careful viticulture and minimal-intervention winemaking.
La Floridita 2024 is a red wine from the D.O. Valle de La Orotava, made from 100% Listán Negro grown in the Las Suertes area of Tenerife. The old vines are located at 350–400 metres above sea level and trained using the traditional cordón trenzado, one of the defining viticultural practices of Valle de La Orotava.
The grapes are fully destemmed and alcoholic fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks. After four days, the wine is bled off and fermentation is completed in 500-litre barrels, where it subsequently ages for five months. The 2024 vintage has an alcohol level of 12.5%.
It is a fresh, light and distinctly mineral red, showing red fruit, spice and subtle herbal and undergrowth notes. The combination of Listán Negro, old vines, volcanic origins and restrained winemaking results in an Atlantic and highly gastronomic wine that is particularly enjoyable served slightly chilled.
