The Furmint variety, well known in its country of origin (Hungary), but a rarity in Austria with only 10 hectares cultivated. Michael Wenzel is the most renowned winemaker for his dry white wines made from this grape. This is the first wine of the dry furmint sequence of the "Native" line with the photograph of a tendril on the label.
This very fresh furmint comes from several plots of mainly quartz soils with some slate and gneiss. Hence the name of the wine "Aus dem Quarz" - from quartz.
Winemaking notes: gentle pressing, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, ageing for 14 months on lees in neutral oak. Handcrafted production of small batches, with a lot of care and no additives.
This vintage marks a milestone: due to the weather conditions in 2024, only half the usual quantity of grapes was harvested. For this reason, single-vineyard wines such as Alte Reben and Stockkultur were not produced, and the entire harvest has been blended into this Aus dem Quarz. The contribution of the old vines to this blend makes it one of the finest vintages of this label!
