Rayco Fernandez and his team in El Hierro present the Bimbache Vinícola project.

Bimbache Miguelito Jackson “Blan de Nuar” 2024 takes its name as an irreverent nod to blanc de noirs: a white wine made primarily from Baboso Negro, alongside Listán Negro, Verijadiego Negro and other local varieties.

Like all wines from the island of El Hierro, it is unique: made from a blend of local grape varieties including Vijariego Blanco (also known as Diego), Listán Blanco, Gual (or Uval), Baboso Blanco and Forastera Blanca. The vines are planted around the winery in the north-west of the island, a cooler area strongly influenced by the Atlantic trade winds.

The whole clusters are pressed and the must ferments with indigenous yeasts, followed by nine months on its fine lees. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered in June 2025, with a tiny production of just 800 bottles. It shows an attractive copper hue and a restrained, serious and mineral character, with a gentle, rounded texture balanced by vibrant energy and depth.

A distinctive wine that shows the unexpected potential of a red grape when approached from a different perspective. Fresh, deep and strongly marked by its volcanic origin, it is particularly appealing to wine lovers looking for limited-production Canary Islands wines, indigenous varieties and unconventional winemaking.
