Jable de Tao, a winery that has revolutionised the Lanzarote wine scene by presenting its second vintage, the 2023, and several very different white wines. Jable is the name given to volcanic sand, these tiny black rocks, smaller than the so-called ‘rofe’, which abound in the Canary Islands.

The maker of these wine marvels is Carmelo Peña, known for his own project in Gran Canaria (Bien de Altura), but with extensive previous experience in winemaking in Lanzarote.

From this second label onwards, the range starts to focus on single vineyard and varietal wines. As the name indicates, it is made from the Canary Island variety Diego, the name by which it is known in Lanzarote, although in other places it is also known as Vijaridiego, among other synonyms. Plot located in the Juan Bello area, more than 100 years old on eroded volcanic rofe soil. The must ferments in 500 litre barrels where it also remains for some time for fining.

A somewhat forgotten variety but with great future potential! Limited production of 1,150 bottles.

Our sensations: The nose is fresh with citrus notes but with aromas of ageing such as cream, hint of spice and of course the mark of origin: ash, crushed stone. On th palate it is fresh with citric acidity, wrapped in a creamy texture, balanced and with a long finish.
