Petit Clergeot Champagne is the personal project of Paul-Bastien Clergeot, a young winemaker from Polisot in the Côte des Bar, who in 2017 decided to transform the family’s vineyards into a small-scale production of single-vineyard Champagne.
His philosophy can be summed up as ‘one plot, one grape variety, one vintage’: to produce precise and distinctive wines that express the terroir rather than the style of a maison, working organically and with minimal intervention.
Petit Clergeot Les Commes 2022 is a 100% Pinot Noir Blanc de Noirs Champagne from a single vineyard in Polisot, Côte des Bar, planted in 1971. Its calcareous-clay soils and old vines bring depth and character to a Champagne focused on expressing its origin rather than imposing a house style.
The grapes were harvested on September 4, 2022. The wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation and is aged in a combination of stainless steel and oak, with approximately 30 months on its lees. It is bottled without fining or filtration and released as a Brut Nature, with 0 g/l dosage, preserving its natural freshness, tension and purity.
The wine shows citrus, red fruit, white flowers and subtle brioche notes, with a taut, saline and precise palate. Partial oak ageing adds breadth and texture, while the persistent mineral finish retains the character of this single-vineyard Champagne. A highly gastronomic Blanc de Noirs, particularly well suited to fish, seafood, mature cheeses and ingredient-driven cuisine.
