The Furmint variety, well known in its country of origin (Hungary), but a rarity in Austria with only 10 hectares cultivated. Michael Wenzel is the most renowned winemaker for his dry white wines made from this grape. This Alte Reben - or Old Vines in German - is the second wine of the dry furmint sequence of the "Native" line with the image of a tendril on the label.
The grapes come from the oldest furmint plantation in Austria, 38 years old (planted by Michael's father) from a unique vineyard with grey quartz soils. Its deep roots penetrate different layers of the soil to find strength for the plant and to avoid the inclement weather, in turn transmitting this mineral strength to the fruit and its juice which becomes this wine.
Winemaking notes: soft pressing, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, ageing for 14 months on lees in neutral oak. Handcrafted production of small productions, with a lot of care and no additives.
A spectacle for lovers of a good, special white wine with a lot of character!
