José Gil, together with his partner Vicky Fernández, started the Jose Gil Vigneron project in 2016, but despite his youth, he has a long career as a winemaker both in a family winery in La Rioja and staging in Germany and Burgundy, which is the origin of the concept of his winemaking: village and single vineyard wines.
Viñedos (or Vineyards) of San Vicente de la Sonsierra is the first village wine and the one with the largest production, 16,450 bottles of this 2021 vintage have been produced. The Tempranillo grapes (with some Grenache and others) come from several 50-year-old plots from around the village of the same name, about 500 metres above sea level.
This is the freshest wine of the range, the de-stemmed grapes are fermented in concrete tanks and the wine is aged for 10 months in used 300 and 500 litre French oak barrels.
This red wine is perfumed and fruity, very easy to drink now or within 5 years if cellared properly.
