José Gil, together with his partner Vicky Fernández, started the Jose Gil Vigneron project in 2016, but despite his youth, he has a long career as a winemaker both in a family winery in La Rioja and staging in Germany and Burgundy, which is the origin of the concept of his winemaking: village and single vineyard wines.

Camino de Ribas - Parcela la Cóncava is a single vineyard wine, from young vines, about 7 years old, planted in goblet (bush vines), at 610 metres above sea level on sandy limestone soils. Both in the vineyard and in the wine the varieties are mixed: 50% Grenache, 40% Tempranillo, and the remaining 10% is based on Garnacha Blanca and some Viura.

Most of the grapes are destemmed, although up to 40% of whole bunches are used during fermentation for extra freshness. Fermented in stainless steel tanks, the wine rests for 10 months in 500-litre French oak barrels kept in a cellar in the hills of San Vicente de la Sonsierra.

This red wine is powerful yet elegant, full of black fruit notes, perfumed and spicy with abundant but silky tannins. Easy to drink now or within 5-10 years if stored correctly.

A total of 2,430 numbered bottles were produced from this vintage, which impressed the most influential international critics, who awarded it 98 points – as did Parker – placing it amongst the very best wines in Spain.
