Jorge Monzón, the architect of the Dominio del Águila project, offers a modern vision to this relatively young but well-established wine region: Ribera del Duero.
The main variety grown in La Aguilera, where the winery is located, is Tempranillo. As the vineyards are very old (around 100 years old), the wines are not 100% single-varietal, as in the past a small percentage of different grape varieties were planted, as is the case with this wine, which is made mainly from Tempranillo (95%), but has some Garnacha, Bobal, and Blanca del País in its composition. The white varieties bring a greater freshness to red wines, which is why they are historically used in many renowned regions.
Traditional production, in concrete vats, where the whole bunches are foot trodden to start the long fermentation process. Subsequent refinement of 27 months in big oak vats. A classic and traditional red wine, but with an impressive character and modern air, where the raw material predominates and not the ageing notes.
Of this 2020 vintage, awarded both by Luis Gutiérrez (Wine Spectator) and Guía Peñin with 97 points, 15,250 bottles (and 101 magnums) were produced.
