Cómo servir el vi brisat

History of the “Vi brisat”

First of all, it is necessary to know where the “Vi brisat” comes from, a Catalan term that means “breezed wine” to name the so-called orange wines, in order to understand its origins in depth. This gives us an idea and may clear up doubts that normally arise regarding this type of wine.

Its name may suggest that it has been made with oranges, but this is a completely normal confusion. Actually, orange wine is made from white grapes. Yes, like a white wine. The difference lies in its preparation, since it is macerated with skins, which is known as “skin contact”. So, in a nutshell, vi brisat is a white wine with a red wine making process. Its colours, flavors and textures emerge thanks to this production process, the same thing that happens with red wines.

Now, an orange wine takes its name from its process, and not from the ingredients used in its production. It is the skin of the grape that, after some time in contact with the wine, releases its dyes in orange tones, which can be from amber to more copper tones. Everything will depend on how long these skins have been in contact with the wine.

Pairings for “Vi brisat”

Although it may not seem like it, due to its dark color, the vi brisat has a good acidity and a body typical of a red wine. Thanks to its good flavor and its mixture of textures and aromas, it is a wine that can be combined with any meal.

It will always depend on the time that has been left to macerate, but in general, these are wines that can be drunk with meat, fish, vegetables and cured cheeses. Especially with food cooked on the barbecue, it provides a unique and special flavor that will leave all diners with the best taste in their mouths.

In addition, you must take into account that when serving the vi brisat it should not be very cold. To enjoy their full potential, winemakers from all over the world recommend taking them at temperatures between 13ºC and 16ºC. Otherwise, the flavor may be distorted and you may not be able to enjoy it at its best. Another good way to be able to taste its good flavor is by decanting. This is a wine that, after a little oxygenation before serving, its flavor can change exponentially. Test it!
