BlancoTinto participates in the first Orange wine onference in Spain
Discover all the details of the national event which we attended in the company of the Gravner family, well known for their outstanding Amber Wines.
Last June we participated in the first Orange wines conference in Spain, an event that brought together professionals such as sommeliers, oenologists, winemakers, distributors and wine lovers at Finca Donaira, in the Sierra de Ronda, Malaga. Besides talking about orange wines, we had the opportunity to be part of a mini-fair of natural wines where we as BlancoTinto were accompanied by Mateja Gravner, daughter of Josko Gravner, cult winemaker for his well-known trajectory in the elaboration of Amber Wines – also known as orange wines. Gravner was the pioneer in Italy in making orange wine, fermenting the whole grapes (including the skins) using amphorae from Georgia, obtaining a result of excellent quality. Thus, since 1996 the Gravner winery has set a trend in the world of wine, becoming the new “standard” wine color worldwide.
This time, as a latest release, we presented the new vintageGravner Ribolla 2015.
An orange wine made with the local grape variety Ribolla Gialla, well known in the area of Friuli Venezia – Giulia. The wine has a fermentation with skins for about 6 months, plus 6 months of aging of the wine in the same amphora buried in the subway cellar. Then the wine was transferred to 5.000 litre oak casks (Bottis) for an aging of 6 years. And finally, after bottling, the wine rests for at least 6 months before being release on the market, so the wine always comes out with a minimum of 7 years of ageing in the cellar itself. The result is a powerful and elegant wine, with a wide range of aromas and flavours, starting with ripe fruit and ending with notes of dried fruits and a variety of sweets aromas. The wine reveals its identity and origin from the first sip, which is thoroughly enjoyable, but with more time in bottle it will gain even more complexity to the delight of discerning palates.
